Essential oils aren’t just namesake. Only if their magical health benefits were known better, they wouldn’t be burning away only as fragrant oils. We found out six different essential oils for you that you will help you sleep like a baby, either through topical application or through diffusion.
Lavender – quite a favourite for its fragrance already, Lavender oil is well-known for its relaxing and calming effects on the body. It is even safe to use for babies, young children as well as adults. And oh! Lavender oil will also keep the spiders away. Can be used in diffusers as well as applied on the body.
Frankincense - This oil can balance emotions, supporting healthy sleep, calming your mind and supporting your body’s natural response to healing. Diffuse this oil to shut down your mind and prepare you for a good night’s sleep.
Cedarwood - supports healthy function of the pineal gland, which releases Melatonin, the body’s natural sleepy hormones. If you aren’t keen on the smell, mix it with lavender and apply to the bottoms of feet. Then cover with socks and melt into bed.
Ylang Ylang – This oil is an absolute delight to diffuse 30 minutes before sleeping time, and especially in couples’ bedrooms. It balances out male and female energies and restores peace.
Marjoram – this essential oil is steam distilled from leaves and it’s known as the “herb of happiness” to the Romans and “joy of the mountains” to the Greeks. This oil is extremely soothing and relaxes the nerves. Can be applied straight to the back of the neck below the hairline, and can even be blended with a bit of coconut oil to smoothen the texture for even application.
Vetiver – This oil is distilled from the roots of the plant and that’s why it smells very rich and earthy. Its calming and stabilising properties make it great for sleep. It can take you awhile to get used to the smell, so if you are a vetiver newbie, you can try mixing it with a floral or citrus oil, such as lavender or bergamot, and diffuse.
